The detail that matters most: no per-sale fee in person
Same-day or instant payouts cost 1.75%, and each dispute costs $15 [1]. Most flat-rate processors add a fixed cents fee to every in-person sale. GoDaddy's in-person rate is 2.5% + 0¢ on standard fees and 2.3% + 0¢ with Point of Sale Plus [1]. With no fixed fee, a $5 coffee and a $500 repair cost exactly the same percent.
That makes GoDaddy unusually kind to small tickets. On a $10 sale, 2.5% + 0¢ is 25¢. A processor charging 2.6% + 15¢ on the same sale takes 41¢. The advantage shrinks as tickets grow, and online it disappears: GoDaddy's online store rate carries a 30¢ fee like most others [1].
Where you sell sets your rate. In-person covers the Smart Terminal, the card reader and Tap to Pay in the GoDaddy Commerce app [1]. Keyed-in cards, typed into the terminal, the app or the Virtual Terminal, cost 3.5% + 0¢ [1].
What GoDaddy Payments costs a month at $10,000, $30,000 and $75,000
Because there is no per-sale fee in person, ticket size does not change GoDaddy's in-person cost. The math is card sales times the rate, plus the plan fee. Point of Sale Plus is $28.99 a month with an annual plan, with a one-month free trial [3].
| Setup | $10,000 a month | $30,000 a month | $75,000 a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard fees, 2.5% + 0¢ | $250.00 (2.50%) | $750.00 (2.50%) | $1,875.00 (2.50%) |
| Point of Sale Plus, 2.3% + 0¢ + $28.99 | $258.99 (2.59%) | $718.99 (2.40%) | $1,753.99 (2.34%) |
Point of Sale Plus pays for itself at $14,495 a month in in-person card sales, where its 0.2-point discount equals the $28.99 fee. Below that, the plan is worth it only for its features, such as unlimited products, stock alerts and online ordering for pickup [3].
| Device | Price |
|---|---|
| Card reader | $79 [5] |
| Smart Terminal Flex (handheld, built-in printer) | $275 [4] |
| Smart Terminal Duo (dual screen, scanner and printer) | $399 [4] |
| Smart Terminal Pro (10-inch swivel display) | $499 [4] |
Rate Saver: 0% on credit cards, because your customer pays
GoDaddy advertises 0% credit card processing with Rate Saver [2]. Rate Saver is an opt-in feature on the Point of Sale Plus or Invoicing & Pay Links Plus plans [1], and GoDaddy's own description says how it works: you opt in "to surcharge credit card transactions" [2]. The fee does not go away. It moves to your customer as a surcharge on credit cards.
| Channel | Credit card | Debit card |
|---|---|---|
| In person | 0% | 1.9% + 0¢ |
| Invoices and Pay Links | 0% | 2.7% + 0¢ |
| Keyed-in | 0.5% | 3.5% + 0¢ |
Debit cards are not surcharged, so you still pay on them. If 40% of your in-person card sales are debit, Rate Saver on Point of Sale Plus costs you about $105 a month at $10,000 in sales, $257 at $30,000 and $599 at $75,000 (debit share times 1.9%, plus $28.99). Your credit card customers pay the rest. GoDaddy says Rate Saver is not available for online store sales [1].
Check surcharge rules before you turn it on
Surcharging has state rules on how much you may add and how you must disclose it. New Jersey has its own. Read our NJ surcharge law page and the surcharge laws by state before you opt in, and think about how regulars will feel about a new line on their receipt.
When interchange-plus usually costs less than GoDaddy Payments
We built an example interchange-plus account from published numbers. Interchange is Visa's April 2026 rate for every card: 40% regulated debit at 0.05% + 21¢ plus a 1¢ fraud add-on, 30% basic credit at 1.51% + 10¢, and 30% Visa Infinite at 2.30% + 10¢ [7]. The markup is Helcim's published in-person margin of 0.40% + 8¢ under $50,000 a month and 0.35% + 7¢ above [6]. We used a $30 average sale, since interchange-plus does charge per sale. Network fees are extra and not included.
| Monthly card sales | GoDaddy, best of the two setups | Interchange-plus example | Gap before network fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10,000 | $250.00 (standard) | $232.30 | $17.70 |
| $30,000 | $718.99 (Plus) | $696.90 | $22.09 |
| $75,000 | $1,753.99 (Plus) | $1,679.75 | $74.24 |
This is the fair result: for in-person sales, GoDaddy's published price is close to our interchange-plus example, and once card network fees are added, GoDaddy can come out ahead. The zero per-sale fee is why. Interchange-plus pulls ahead when your customers use mostly debit cards, when your average sale is large, or when much of your volume is online, where GoDaddy charges 2.7% to 2.9% + 30¢ [1].
If you sell over $100,000 a year, ask GoDaddy for its special offer [2] before you shop elsewhere. BatchOut is our own processing service; if we show it next to GoDaddy, we label it as ours.
